What

Declares the muse user for the amd host so the account survives activation.

Why

  • The muse account was created imperatively on amd on 2026-10-25 for Muse's laptop administration (SSH key auth + wheel sudo; the account password is vaulted in Bitwarden Secrets / 1Password, mirroring the other fleet credentials).
  • nixos/users/default.nix sets mutableUsers = false, so an undeclared account disappears on the next activation. This PR declares it.

Changes (following the existing users/backup pattern)

  • nixos/users/muse/default.nix (new) — declares users.users.muse: uid 1338 (matching the imperatively created account), isNormalUser, extraGroups = [ "wheel" ], description "Muse (AI agent)", Muse's SSH authorized key, and hashedPasswordFile wired to a sops secret with neededForUsers = true.
  • secrets/sops/users/muse/password_muse.yaml (new) — sops file holding the sha512crypt hash of the same existing account password, encrypted to the laptop's age recipient only, mirroring secrets/sops/users/user/password_user.yaml.
  • nixos/hosts/default.nix — adds "muse" to the amd host's users list only; the intel (nixos) host is unchanged.

Validation

  • nix eval .#nixosConfigurations.amd.config.users.users.muse.uid → 1338
  • nix eval .#nixosConfigurations.amd.config.users.users --apply builtins.attrNames → includes muse
  • nix eval .#nixosConfigurations.nixos.config.users.users --apply builtins.attrNames → does not include muse (intel host unaffected)
  • nixfmt --check on both touched .nix files → clean

Not done: no nixos-rebuild was run against amd from this PR — activation happens through the normal deploy flow.

Reformat secrets/sops/users/muse/password_muse.yaml before merge.

The CI formatting check runs on changed YAML files. It rejects this file because the file uses 4-space indentation, and the configured formatter normalizes it to 2 spaces. The Check formatting for changed files step in the treefmt job runs nix run .#format-check on every added or modified file in the PR. That command runs treefmt --fail-on-change, which exits non-zero when a formatter changes a file. Prettier is configured for *.yaml and *.yml. No exclude covers secrets/. The root .editorconfig sets indent_size=2 for all files. Prettier rewrites the nested users: and sops: mappings from 4-space to 2-space indentation, so the check fails for this commit.

Run the repository formatter on the file and commit the result:

treefmt --config-file treefmt.toml --tree-root . secrets/sops/users/muse/password_muse.yaml

Reindenting does not change the encrypted values, the mac, or the lastmodified field. SOPS authenticates the decrypted values, not their YAML whitespace. Verify the result with treefmt --fail-on-change secrets/sops/users/muse/password_muse.yaml before pushing.
